Trans swap

Postby 90chum » Sun Mar 24, 2013 4:26 pm

I have a '90 auto and the trans is almost junk, I bought a 4wd 47rh and have the wiring, etc... To put it in, and was planning on a hefty rebuild. But I was on Craigslist and found a 2wd getrag with hydros, not sureif it comes with pedals. So my question is how hard would it be to make the rag 4wd? Or should I stick with the rh?
1990 w250 RCLB auto-some stuff to make a constant haze, diamond eye 4" straight, 47rh with goerend triple disk and suncoast innerds, body panels and more panels. shes occassionally referred to as a dirty slut, but usually just chum

If you're going to go 5 speed, you'll need the parts to convert the trans to 4WD and either the conversion coupler for the auto t-case, or the hen's teeth hard-to-find 29 spline transfer case.
You'll also need some driveshaft work, too.

Since you're wanting to get away from the 3 speed auto, the options are either expensive or VERY expensive.

With that, the 3 speed can be rebuilt for under a grand, if you don't mind a slow truck.

Mark.

What would be needed to complete a 727 to 47rh swap?

Driveshaft alterations and moving the cross member. You will also need a 2nd gen adaptor plate and starter. I believe the t-case will work since the 47 has a 23 spline output as well.

if you want to do the getrag swap with the 4wd trans, no driveshaft of crossmember mods are necessary.
1990 W250 getrag, 3.07's, 60k on full rebuild, DAP 5x14's, 12cm WG, 366 spring, 2nd gen IC not hooked up yet
