I cut down my spare intermediate to where there was just one bushing journal left. I think that's short enough, but I don't know yet.

This length allows me to use the chisel and get at it for removal

Yea I have something like that.

I ordered new bearings for the O/D housing. Boy are they proud of those! I do like talking to someone that is not just a Suncoast parts changer though

Lacking that spline alignment tool myself, I learned to assemble the OD section first (using the bare intermediate-shaft), then assemble the 3-speed section, then drop the OD section on the 3-speed section. :)

That's how I do it. Only now I have a spare intermediate shaft now that I can use. I just don't want to cut a good one.

Yea, but then you have to have the large "official" spring compressor. That I lack.

I'm still holding out to find a stock flex plate from some species of B series Cummins, but in the event that I can't find one here quick what about this:

http://www.prw-usa.com/2624

I don't remember where, but I heard Sutter1stgen had luck with one. I can space the bell housing if needed.

Opinions?

I run what appears to be a thicker version of the OEM plate that's SFI rated. It looks a lot like the OEM article including the cut-out holes.

That PRW plate has half the cut-outs of the OEM. Too be sure it'll hold up. Mine has thus far (though you've got me thinking about it now that I gotta fix the crankshaft seal . . .. dang-it!)

Don't you have a broken shaft somewhere?

but, . . . .. looking at the pics now, I reckon I could do like you did but just use a longer bolt . . . . .

Hell no! It's all good.

Do you recall where you got your flex plate?

For the life of me, no.

But I did find what I believe is the article http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cummins-6BT-5-9 ... 0807058930

The thing is, if you're hung up on the SFI rating thing, it's my understanding these may not pass the newest SFI specs as the stamped-steel element has been disallowed. Don't quote me there. That may explain why that I've linked to is almost $80 less than what I paid back in '07 . . . .?

It is thicker'er compared to stock/OEM though . . .

I put that PRW flexplate in my pickup about a month ago. Drove 40 miles and pulled the trans again to replace the input seal and install the bellhousing spacer. :D The input seal was totally destroyed from the converter rubbing against it. The pump cover even was starting to wear a little. That spacer cost 90-something bucks shipped so it might be cheaper to get a flexplate that isn't so thick.

The price makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside 8)

How's the spacing in the bellhousing? I'd rather not have to space out the bellhousing, but I can make aluminum washers to do the job. Reason I ask is because I have a Suncoast converter too and I'd wager they have the same dimensions on the outside.

In the once in a blue moon that I actually make it to the drag strip, if they want to crawl under my 2wd and pull off the inspection cover to verify that I have an SFI flex plate, they can be my guest.

I recall that you had issues and that's why I asked about this one. People say "Oh just get a billet flex plate". They don't understand that I have a 300 hp 1st gen  I'm not buying a $400 flex plate.
