Getrag shifter

Hello i recently picked up a 92 ext. cab 4x4 with getrag with 450,000 kms and no speedometer. truck was stuck in 4th so i removed top cover and a roll pin came out but was still hanging on by a bit so all was well but when i put the top cover on i could not move the stick from side to side. if the snap ring is not all the way in it will work but i would feel more comefortable if i could put the snap ring in till it snaps. and ideas?

Pull the shifter back out and make sure the slots in the rails are all in line. It may be stuck in 2 gears or the shifter may be in 1 and the trans in another.
