2wd trans swap

Postby 12valve350 » Sun Jul 14, 2013 10:23 pm

Ok, So it's been some time since ive checked the threads out, And ive read up on a few different swaps but i still have some questions about what id like to do. Iv'e got a 1990 D350 with the stock 727 and the 3.07 rear end. Im tired of that slippy thing and i was wondering how much it would take to switch it to a 5 speed. Most of the swap threads are for 4wd trucks which I dont have. Would it be easier to do? what all do i need? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

It's actually somewhat harder, but only by the reasoning that you need to change the floor tunnel out.
You'd need the crossmember and isolator system from an early truck (1989-1991), but the later system will work in the earlier truck, too.

Pre-1992 Getrag 5 speed is it's own crossmember, but 1992/1993 was a mix of the old and the new and used the automatic crossmember and isolator.

I outlined some of the differences in a posting over on DTR a while back:
