which hydraulic fluid

Postby ellis93 » Mon Jul 15, 2013 4:59 am

Gonna put some in the 47rh trans for the 82,and I'm needing to know what different kinds folks have ran. I already know that the Deere stuff will be top of the list because of the fact that Deere stuff has some kind of magical properties to it,what I don't know is if something like 303 has proven to be just as affective in the trans.

I'm interested as well. Might put some in my 727 to help it when I go to pick up my crew cab. I've read some threads that people run a 50/50 mix between hydraulic fluid and trans fluid.

That's what I'm figuring to do.....mix it. Only I want a fluid that is readily available to me.....something I don't have to go out of my way for  and don't get raped when buying it either

Yeah......if you buy into the hype  Half the price of a 5 gallon bucket of their "quality" fluids is made of hype, the rest is hopes, dreams, pixie dust and fairy farts

Not a fart grader, so I wouldn't know, myself.

Anyway, expensive (JD?) hydraulic fluid is the topic.

Here's what I got going on. For the longest time I thought I had Deere hydraulic fluid because it was green, it came from a Deere barrel, and the local Deere dealer is family to my boss. Turns out that I have Co-Op hydraulic fluid. Oh well it works and the price was still right ;)

I've heard guys have good luck out of the Orieleys brand tractor hydro oil. I can first starting yo slip in mine taking off and second every now and then. I'm running the Deere oil and its done alright but I can smell a burnt smell in my fluid now. I'm getting ready to order my kit for my 47rh and don't know if I'll do tractor fluid again.

Reckon you were riding on borrowed time any way or do you think it helped the trans along Andy

I've been running some cheap, by the 5-gallon drum generic stuff with a little ATF4 to color it a little for a while now. No issues that I'm aware of.

When I first switched to it, I did notice a little better pull in the seat with it being a little thickerer and all.

I'm running generic hydro oil in the '96 and it seems to take longer to shift with it and sometimes I have to actually let off and ease into it again before it'll make the shift.
It likely has to do with viscosity.

Then again, I have been less than impressed with it, as an automatic, than I usually am with autos.
