Doublers....

Postby rb70383 » Sun Sep 22, 2013 11:11 pm

Planning my crew project and deciding if I want to go with a doubler. Going to run 3.54 gears, around 36-37" tires, 93 A518. I was going to run twin stick for the 2wd low option, maneuvering trailers, but realized to just not engage the front hubs for that. :/

However, since I am running taller tires with high gears, I figure the doubler would help offroad.

Now doubler kits require everything Dodge doesnt have. :;-|: Is a doubler worth it? This will also be a roadtrip vehicle so dont want to re-gear the axles lower.

I'm on 40s with 4.10s and it does fine cruising on the freeway.in town is a little sluggish.but 4.10s will help take off better and better for towing

Didn't you wish u had a little extra low range offroad? Curious if the basic 2:1 low range is enough off road. I won't mind a little sluggishness on road for highway cruising. Iirc correctly with my proposed tires, it would be equivalent to havi g 3.7-3.8 gears to be around the same on 40's with 4.1

Another build I was reading they guy ran military 39 XML with 3.54. Said be thought 3.73 with be about right. Contemplating a ff14b for that reason.

i have 33's with 3.07s and it works just great. don't have time to see what that equals with 3.54s but should be somewhat close.
and i'm running a manual btw

What transfer case do you have.I'm running my ford Borg Warner 1345. 4low is way to hard on everything and when I'm off road I stay in 2wd to test my truck anyway

I used to run 36s on 3.54s..........no issues what so ever. Even at stock power it did just fine at low speeds.

I have the np205. My 01 CTD with the auto and 3.54 is great on the highway, so I am kinda spoiled and used to being able to cruise at 70+ if need be. Hell west side of texas, speed limit is 80. Set cruise at 85 and roll.
