My father has a 99' with 4.10. If he didn't use od he would get nowhere quick. No matter how heavy the load, he's utilizing od when the truck will allow it. Towing his 16' edgewater fishing/ski boat up to the lake he never has to pull over to allow for passing, and his trans never hunts for the right gear.
Take this with a grain of salt, but I've always been under the impression that anything over 1600 rpm and your trans is making sufficient line pressure. I personally won't shift into od until about 65 mph. I have 3.07 and a A518. I'm at about 82 mph at 2k rpm.
As long as you feel comfortable with your line pressure, load applied, and road conditions (hills/flats), I see know reason why you couldn't pull in od at a safe towing speed.

The "newer" chevy trucks have a tow/haul button...........and that trans will still shift you into overdrive.

I've personally towed hundreds of thousands of miles with chevy gas burner trucks (6.0 and 8.1s) and have always just used that tow/haul button.........never had a transmission go out on me.

The chevys change alot of shift parameters with tow haul. I believe it ups the pressure too.

One could also block off there afc feed tube with a valve, valet mode, which would help apply more throttle with out the power. Which in a way would give more line pressure per a certain hp than before. First gen tow haul mode.

All the new trucks have tow/haul mode. Both my 12 ram and our ford service trucks at work will go into top gear, but I've found the ram limts you to 140km/h with it on
