Automatic stays in 2nd.

Postby fxr3 » Wed Nov 13, 2013 10:50 pm

My 93 w250 has 111k. 5k ago I had tranny "serviced" after a cooler hose blew off(tranny fluid is not good windshield fluid). Ive always maintained truck, so I think tranny is good, but out of adjustment. Ive read here how to adjust shifting, but I'm getting old and rather someone else do it.
It will shift from 2nd to 3rd by encouraging it- full throttle then back off, but tends to want to go back to 2nd with any aggressive throttle input.
Do most tranny shops know how to make correct adjustments? Thanks in advance, Barry

Sounds like the TV cable is stuck in the accelerated position. Just look under the hood at the throttle linkage and see if the cable is all the way forward or pushed back.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I would say the cable was stuck. I douched them with cleaner, lubed them with WD40. Drove a 1000miles, and she shifted perfectly. Thanks, Barry
