Step up from the Second Gen flexplate?

Postby Begle1 » Sun Nov 18, 2007 1:56 pm

What's the next step up after the second gen flexplate? Does it jump straight to billet stuff, or is there something in between?

There are laminate plates. Basically two thickness stock plates.

There are double center plates (center of one welded to center of the existing. Single thickness on outside 3" or so of plate)

sourceautomotive.biz has them both I believe.

At this time, there are no Billet flex plates available for the CTD running a Non lock-up converter.

Those seen are MUCH thicker compared and literally won't fit. The lock-up converter with the billet plate is 1/2 to 3/4" (don't quote me) thicker in profile. The engine to transmission adapter plate is deeper to accommodate it all. ;)

Sorry, I've asked the same question.

I got mine from these folks ~ http://www.prwonlinestore.com/index.asp ... ProdID=284

It's SFI rated and is about .035" thicker than OEM.

Hope this helps.

I read your post over there regarding the PATC flexplate and added thickness.

So a stock second gen flexplate works on a first gen transmission though, but an aftermarket second gen flexplate does not work on a first gen transmission?

Not the billet one. Too thick.

I'm assuming there's a built-in amount of slack that's different with the 1st & 2nd gen trucks.

I do know the engine-to-trans adapter plate IS different in that the latter is deeper to accommodate the thicker torque converter system (lock-up). I think that's where it's all worked out.
