master cylinder rod eye too big for clutch pedal help please

Postby jmd4993 » Tue Dec 10, 2013 1:33 pm

i just put on a stock replacement of my master/slave cylinder assembly from partsgeek.com. but when i connect the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal the eye on the push rod is too big for nob on the clutch pedal so it could pop off anytime. any ideas how to solve this. also the clutch pedal naturally drops below the break pedal i heard this isnt right but it used to be an auto so idk if that makes a difference

any info is greatly appreciated thanks

There is supposed to be a bushing in the eye of the rod. You didn't say if it's in there or not. If it is, something is wrong, rod probably. IIRC the hot ticket is to use the old rod on the new master, I think I read that on here someplace.

My rod didn't have a bushing of any sort, but it was pretty ate out so who knows if it had one before. Here's how I got mine out:

Tacoclaw wrote:Then you'll need this too, I screwed with mine forever before finally giving up and googling it. I managed to do mine while still under the hood though, I wasn't bleeding that damn clutch again. This is to get the old rod out of the master cylinder.

Take a long hardened pick and reach in and fold one of the tabs back, then use a twisting, pulling motion on the rod and it'll pop out.

All it takes is getting the end to go past ONE of the tabs.

Done several to make the 2nd gen master work on a 1st gen before.

Mark.

I used a small welding rod I busted the flux off of and ground a short angle on the end.
