help me select a proper clutch

Postby rockmike » Wed Dec 11, 2013 10:29 am

Hey guys, I could use some advice.I have a 93 2wd getrag dually:hx35, bosch 190's, BD high performance inj pump, WM,4" exhaust,2nd gen high volume lift pump,dynamic timing spacer,3200 rpm spring.

I tow about 18k with her often,no racing,no pullin,just a driver and a hauler.

I installed a quality(AMS) OE type clutch a couple years ago and its slipping pretty bad and bucks like crazy trying to back up.

What would you recommend I replace this one with?I aint got money spraying out my rear,but I aint broke ass either lol just want to spend the right amount and have a clutch I can rely on for long while.I have to back my trailer into some tricky spots often,this buckin sthi in reverse has got to go!

lets discuss and thanks!

Mike.

I have a Southbend 13" with 3" organic facings. I don't tow with it, but Ellis has the same clutch and he tows a bit with his...hopefully he'll chime in...

Yep.....kick a$$ clutch for the money,no herky jerk in reverse while pushing a load.....priceless stock peddle feel with absolutely no grabby feel trying to take off.

If your gonna tow,stay with organic faces......wide faces. BTDT on a ceramic....gets real old,real fast :cry:

BTDT= Been there Done that.

I would possibly even recommend the valair dual disc organic, depending on how you drive/tow.

Thanks again guys.I talked to Eric @ hungry diesel and he gave me some great info and yes I think what you guys suggested is going to be an ideal clutch for me also.Got a save some $$ and I'll order one through hungry diesel, he not only deserves our support but hes earned it!IMHO.

Eric does a bang up job. I've always had pleasant results with my dealings with him.

Ive got some miles on that clutch,about 2500 miles on it now.I like it! it shifts great a lil grabby compared to my OE type clutch,no bucking when backing up the big trailer.

I too will recommend this clutch for our work trucks 8)

Wow that is good to hear I just bought a 91 2wd dually that has the exact same symptoms while trying to back a trailer. I had a real hard time finding anything but stock clutch listings for a 1st gen.
