Help! 727 Tailshaft Housing Removal Issues

Postby Mckinney » Fri Dec 20, 2013 1:43 pm

I have purchased a used gear vendors unit and I have all of the parts off and ready to go except I am unable to remove the GV tailshaft housing that connects to the GV unit itself. I've contacted GV and their instructions guided me to messing with the parking pawl but I've tried everything with no luck. This is the third time I have made the 2 hour drive out to try and remove this section. I really don't want to do it again. Anyone have any ideas or tips on how to remove this tail shaft housing?

I have it disconnected from the trans and I can pull it away from the trans about 1/4" at the most. It will turn freely unless in park but it feel like it snags on something and won't slide off.

That's what I thought too but on the Gear Vendors tail shaft housing that plate and slot are not there. It's just flat metal with mounting holes for the crossmember. I'm at a loss right now :@:

i mis read the post

your trying to get the GV apart

I looked at them during Drag week
looks to be only
8 bolts holding it together,

depending on the gasket they use
it may have glued itself together

I finally figured it out with the help of a more knowledgeable tech at GV. There is what they call a coupling bolt that holds everything in place from the opposite end of the transmission. It was a bear to break loose especially while under the truck but I finally got it off. Thank you for your help anyway! I just scored a complete GV unit, driveshaft, and rear axle for $500! Whoooo!
