Dodge Super Duty Trans Cooler

Postby matthewh » Tue Feb 04, 2014 1:44 am

So I'm looking for another one of these coolers to use on my M37 project. Wondered if anybody knew of some new mfg'd ones, or an aftermarket one that's about the same size. GVW rating?
I have a used one off a truck I parted, but its got 300k on it, and I'm not sure it doesn't leak, hate to run it and have it trash my new trans.

So I finally got around to getting this thing degreased and cleaned up. Looks like all the fluid was from the hoses, they were pretty cracked when I removed it from the truck.

I'd like to replace the temp switch, because the wiring to it is questionable, and the plugs broke, from removal . I found a Mopar part number, #04740448, but its not coming up a good number, nor anything online for it.

Is there a replacement for this guy or do I just plug the hole and run an aftermarket temp sender. I'd like it to work automatically if possible.

Thanks

Most idiot light temp sending units are on/off configuration. Most are normaly open type of switches. Find one that closes in the temp range you want.

Wire the cooler into a relay. Run main power to pin 30. Run the power wire for the fan to pin 87. Run controll power for the relay to pin 85. Pin 86 goes to the temp sending unit. You can use a 4 or 5 pin relay. The numbers are the same. If you want a light telling you when the cooler is off. Use a 5 pin relay. Use pin 87A for the light.

A good parts person can find switches by temp range and fitting size.

Thanks Phillip, I'll look into that. Been behind getting everything back in the truck, haven't had a chance to mount cooler yet, or wire anything
