NEED HELP

Postby coolhand_luke » Tue Mar 11, 2014 10:10 pm

I'm going crazy over my stinking tranny not holding overdrive  . I put a new TPS on and that didn't fix it. Just put a TPS delete kit in and that didn't fix it either. I changed the fluid and filter as well. It will just go on and off like its shorting or something. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a solenoid issue. Either that or the temp sender in the cooler line is bad.

Could try bypassing the temp switch first to test it, it would save you the $$ if it's not bad.

Won't hold od anytime. Just flutters in and out or doesn't do anything at all. How do I go about bypassing the temp sensor

Don't even bother, put a switch in to turn the OD on or off so it bypasses all but the solenoid. Then you know if the problem is electrical or in the trans.

I had one that wouldn't hold od, ended up the piston seal was leaking then eventually took od out. Put a pressure gauge on the od. When I done it I flipped the switch and I had 46psi at the od.

You should have 2 wires, a power from the PCM and a ground. Just shoot power from a hot circuit thru the switch to the orange/lt green wire.
I found it here, viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13444&p=110621&hilit=wiring+diagram#p110621

you should have a hot wire and a ground, If you find the hot wire, run the ground through the switch. the computer controls the ground for Od.

What about your CPS? When mine was going out on my '92 it'd do the same thing. I eventually ran the o/d on a hydraulic switch, with a manual switch to lock it out

Ok well, today my speedometer wasn't working and my od didn't try to kick in at all. Usually my speedometer will flicker back and forth, could my speedometer be my problem??

Unplug your tips sensor and see if your speedometer starts working. Mine shorted out and caused my speedometer to do like you explain.
