getrag swap questions

Postby Flat bed cummins » Tue Apr 01, 2014 7:02 pm

I was wondering about the nv4500 swap, my getrag is going out. I can get a nv4500, but what else would. Need? Is it easier to get an adapter from advanced adapter or is there any other places that are better?

You can either get the kit from Advanced Adapters.... Or you can use the bellhousing, engine adapter, and starter from a 2nd gen truck.

I know this is and older thread. but I'm about to swap a 4500 for my worn out getrag. I have access to a totalled (rolled over) 2001.

Are the adapter, starter, bell housing, hydros the same on a 12v and 24v? I can get all of the parts I want from it...

What do I need to grab? Clutch pedal assembly, hydros, adapter, starter, flywheel, tranny, shifter? Anything else? Whats the difference in length on a getrag and 4500? will i need to lengthen/shorten my driveshafts?

Thanks in advance.

The pedals won't work. The hydros will if you have a 1st gen M/C push rod. The push rods are different lengths between the 1st gen's and FRT's. You will need the M/C mounting bracket under the dash. That 01 will not have it.

You can use the engine adapter/ starter/ flywheel and clutch.

I can't say on the length differences.

FRT???

The rest, I got.

I just wanted to make sure if there was or wasn't a difference in parts on the second gen 12 and 24 valve.

94+ year trucks. Flippen round trucks. The four letter word works best as the first word.

Brandon, you can use your pedals and clutch master cylinder, you will need the slave off of a 94-95-96ish I believe by 01 they had went to a smaller diameter slave. I learned this this the hard way, took about 2 years but I destroyed a 750$ centerforce clutch by using the smaller slave, when used with the 1st gen master it overtravels the clutch diaphram spring. do be sure and grab the plastic line, the first gen line was too short for the 5600, and the 4500 may be the same way. If you use the 01 line you will need to put the fitting that pins into the first gen master into the 01 line.

Yeah, I know, you and Philip are from the same generation and use the same words. I use those words too, but only when I'm working on it.

I just did a nv4500 swap in mine. I used the advanced kit. It worked really well. Just my 2cents.
