205 T-case other sources? gassers

Postby crossy » Tue Apr 15, 2014 7:00 pm

I'm a bit in the dark here. I need a T-case for my 89. ( it came without one) . I know the auto trucks used a 23 spline Cast iron, gear driven 205 unit, but was the T-case unique to the diesels??? I just looked a at a few GASSER W350's that are stored and they appear to have the same one in them?? They all had Dana 60's in the front too. Also did Dodge ever use the 203?? a few of the early 80's w250's APPEARED to have the 205 also. I am used to seeing the round tag on all the lighter aluminum NP- t-cases that tell you what they are , but I do not know where the ID is on a 205 . I ASSUMED that since I saw UN-lockable ,Selectro brand hubs that it had to be a 205 vs. a 203. thanx , Crossy

Dodge used NP205's for quite a few years, and as far as I know, they are all the same except the units used behind the Getrag, the 29 spline input variety. Ford and GM also used NP205's, each with their own twist on things. Dodge used NP203's during the 70's on half tons up to the W400's. They are strong units too, but the range box on the front is really the only desirable part, and that's for the off road crowd. NP205's came with a build tag, but who knows if its still there on a lot of them. Now, the Dana 60's that used external hubs (Selectro's or others) also had drive flanges if the truck had a NP203, they were part of the whole all wheel drive system.
