Bad TC or something internal

Postby Kasper Cummins » Tue May 20, 2014 3:08 pm

So since its final 70 and sun here in the north country I'm want to get my truck back on the road soon. Last year when it went in gear it loaded the motor like normal but when the transmission was warm it would kill the motor at idle. I tried turning the idle up but then I had a hell of a time stopping it. So my plan was to rebuild it over the winter but winter was here and long gone now. So if I swap the torque converter and put a shift kit in will that fix it or will I have to dig deeper? I pull 2qt.s out because I thought it was over full but it didn't help and I didn't feel comfortable taking any more out. It's a 518 auto.

Any chance of revving it up and driving it to get more symptoms? Also, is there anything in the pan?

It would have to be the converter, stator locked up or something.

Like in a 47rh if the luckup solinoid went bad and kept the converters clutch locked,it would has the same symptoms. Since there's no tcc in a 518 I'd say the converter is fubar'd
