Clunky driveshaft?

Postby Begle1 » Sun Dec 02, 2007 4:13 pm

I got a driveshaft out of a '91 Diesel overdrive 2wd. There is something loose in it that goes clunk. It doesn't rattle, but it's something that slides and clunks when I turn over the driveshaft like a rainstick.

Is this some kind of internal balancer? I assumed that's what it was, but the driveshaft shop and junkyard guy both said that they'd never seen anything like it before.

All weights were put on the outside of driveshafts. If something is rolling around inside get it opened it up and remove it.

What the heck could be on the inside of a driveshaft?

Maybe Chrysler was having labor disputes in 1990 and disgruntled line workers started slipping spare parts into driveshafts?

I know on some of the high dollar cars they put cardboard type mat. in them to deaden the klunk sound.
