Driveline questions

Postby Jelmer » Mon Oct 13, 2014 12:07 am

Me and my brother are in the process of rebuilding our '93 D250 CTD. I got a complete respray and we worked on the chassis (rust prevention, very impartand in Holland!). Now we need a new clutch and while we are there we want a new center support bearing and U-joints too.

So I have a couple of questions:

* Clutch kit: We have a round 250 hp, is this a good clutch kit for our application: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... cc=1086218
* Pilot bearing: I've read that they fail and better are replaced by this: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... cc=1086218
* What brand is recommend for U joints, OEM Dana?
* Which PTO cover bolt do we need to use to fill the G360?

Thanks for helping out!

I'm unsure of the top two questions, though I wouldn't recommend using a brass pillow bearing as you'll feel every vibration in that shaft.

On the last question, you pull any of the top PTO bolts. If you don't feel like fighting the tight clearances down there, you can pull your shifter out and pour the oil right into the top of the trans. A little more work in the beginning but the job goes way faster.

I'd run greaseable Spicer U-joints, makes flushing of the old grease easy.

As for a clutch, South Bend makes on heck of a HD upgrade, 13" conversion, sealed roller pilot bearing, 3" wide disc facings, all with the stock feel. I run one, along with Ellis too. I'm sure RC can help you out with getting one.

Southbend clutches are great, my brother runs one in his 600 Hp BMW and is very pleased with it.

Yep.....loving mine.

Running a stock style clutch is begging to do the job twice. Pay once, cry once.
