Ditching temp sensor

Postby Diesel » Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:39 pm

Winter is near again and again my transmission likes to hunt between 3 and 4 until fully warm. The transmission itself is excellent, shifts great, I run ATF+4 and a bottle of Lucas, and don't have any problems until its cold. When cold it hunts 3 and 4. Can I just unplug the temp sensor that controls OD? Is it the one on the transmission line or is it linked to the engine water temp? If water temp then I guess I am stuck with finding a new temp sensor.

The sensor in the trans line is just a high temp cutout switch. It drops OD if it sees a line temp of 275. It auto resets at 245.

Rig a jumper wire to by pass the inline switch. It could have problems with the connection. If your problem goes away then you need to address that switch connections.

So the temp sensor the transmission uses to keep it in 3rd until warmup is the one on the block? Is that the one at the far back on the driver side of the block?
