Other than they are GM trannies, can/will they hold up to a Cummins?

I wouldn't hold my breath for to long about them. Here are some spec's I found. Look at the input torque rating.

Manufactured by New Venture Gear
Order code: DDC
Input torque rating: 300 ft-lb
Max GVWR: 7,200 lb
Max GCVWR: 11,000 lb
Fluid Capacity: 4.8 pints to the bottom of the fill plug
Weight (with oil): 110 lb
Mopar Manual Transmission Lubricant (PN 4761525) is the ONLY lubricant recommended for the NV3500.
Fill Plug: Front housing on passenger side
Drain Plug: Bottom of the front housing

300 lb-ft? I bet it'd last forever in a chevy.

You could probably blow the countershaft right out the bottom of the case. :2cool:

But dont they put hopped up V8's for rock crawling in front of them? The only reason why I am asking is cause they are a dime a dozen. Maybe something billet might help?

Just wondering. Trying to do something on a budget.

Jon, didn't you know? You can't use "Cummins" and "budget" in the same sentence. It's a law or something! :sunny:

It's a Good Tranny

Postby Ace » Sat Dec 08, 2007 2:50 pm

It's a good tranny for the application - just not a "Cummins" application. I like the one behind the 5.2 in my 1500. Shifts real smooth, nice gear spread. I haven't heard it has that 5th gear issue like it's big brother, either. Got 120k on it, still running great. It takes a synchromesh or motor oil, just like the Getrag.

Sounds like it'd be good behind a stock to mild 4BT. But, since the 4BT and 6BT have the same dimensions for tranny adapting, why not go bigger? Other than cost, I guess.
