Get a 47RH out of a 94-95 2nd Gen, mod it to hold the most power you think you will go. This way you get a lock-up tq converter and ease of finding parts.

Lock-up can potentially double the price of the transmission and converter, all so you can add a traumatic driveline shock that makes things a lot more likely to break. In a quarter mile lockup might be good for a second, but you'd be hard pressed to spend the $2000 extra dollars on something that won't give you more than that.

The 47re is electronically controlled. The rh is the one you want.

Depending on your power and what you do with the truck you can build a518 to hold.

Power to the ground = 5 speed Getrag or nv4500.

Well you can't shift a getrag, nv4500, or nv5600 as fast as an auto when drag racing. You can't shift a manual hooked to most sleds. So sounds like you should go with an auto, and with the power you looking for, I'd say an overdrive to get top speed in the quarter.
