I very much want to do the lockup conversion in my 92, but not having any success. Mainly because of cost. The problem is no parts pool here in Alaska and they don't sell parts of, just the whole transmissions. I don't have enough information on compatible transmissions to know what to scavenge from. Apparently there are differences within models that will make one compatible and another not. Such as shaft diameters and valve body bolt hole patterns. The outrageous shipping charges doubles the price of things sent up here. So I have to work with what I can find and not what I want to use. I have a good 518 to start from, so can anyone help me narrow down any possible combinations?

if you have done any mods to your motor at all I would highly recommend an alloy input shaft, I have seen 2 shattered lockup input shafts on totally stock cummins trucks. If you don't have the funds for that, find a gasser lockup 518 and use the parts off of that. The valve body itself was the same wether it was diesel or gas, all you need to do is take the little covers off the sides of the vb and put the diesel springs in, if they are a different color. All the internal springs in the vb are color coded if there was a difference. Never mix and match the steel separator plate, or the transfer plate, keep those together with the valve body. The input and reaction shaft support out of the lockup gasser will fix you right up.

The only part out of a gasser 518 I can use is the valve body. The input shaft is a smaller diameter. At this point I'm planning to use a 47RE diesel or V10 front section (can be 2 or 4wd), my A518 OD unit and piston retainer, and a 46 or 47RH valve body.

The gas 518 shafts are the same as a diesel.
