Okay, here it goes.. My truck is a 1992 D350 Dually. After traveling over 300,000m miles, the overdrive stopped working. My solution is to remove the A518 and upgrade to an A618. Here is the Dually on the lift in my driveway.

The $750 score from the salvage yard... I hope it works, these transmissions are hard to come by.

I have spent some time talking to some people to get some Ideas of "Where to begin" to do this swap. My first step is to modify the shift linkage. Here is a picture of it stock unmodified...

I am dead tired and need some rest. I hope to drag the welder out tomorrow to begin my transformation. :P

Hope it all goes well for you. I'd get the new tranny up and in before trying to modify the shift linkage assembly. ;)

Great advice, I was careful enough to make it reverseable if it didn't fit. My large welder needs repair, and my smaller welder is just too small for that thickness of metal.

I accomplished almost nothing today. I have a possible 4 hours tomorrow (weather permitting).... I hope I can at least get the A518 out.

Due to the fact that this is a junkyard transmission, I didn't have it in me to detail it before the install.... LOL

I did install a new Torque Converter seal to be on the safe side....

It took many many years to accomplish both... You can with enough determination. 8)

The infamous Adapter plate. The most difficulty I had, were those three bolts holding my transmission cooler bracket on the right hand front. I held my tongue the right way and twisted my self up a bit, but I got her done without a 10mm wrench. Next time, I will be sure to bring more metric tools to my driveway and less SAE.

A comparison between the two adapter plates, just in case one of you out there wanted to see them side by side. The smaller adapter is what came on my truck. This smaller adapter is for the 727 and the A518's. The bigger adapter is for the A618's to allow for the larger "Lock Up" converter -or- a NV4500 Manual transmission.
