Stock rebuild 727=max hp?

Postby JQmile » Fri Dec 14, 2007 12:24 pm

Anybody push a 727? Curious on whether it will hold 400+rwhp with good clutches, a low stall converter, and everything else stock.....

I know I'm over this now, but I was holding 370/850+ with my 47RH, stock clutch count, billet front lever, strut, anchor, Goerend converter and valve body, billet input for me because they are hollow on a 47RH.

Your going to have to do something with the valve body to up the pressure, either a shift kit or have someone set one up for you. I also wonder how the stock aluminum front planetary carrier will hold up under that kind of power.

Thats not a leak, its the external lubrication system.

Rick Allison at A&A transmission builds a nice valve body, and tons of trick parts for 727's. Also great prices and a great person to deal with.

There used to be a red, hot p-pumped, 727, 307 geared, first gen on the TDR that was an early hot diesel pulling truck, circa 1991-92. I think the guys name that owned it last was Zach. I'm drawing a blank on what his user name was. Bill Gilbert would know who it is. He actually broke an input shaft if I remember right.

He used to go by Parts Man now he is DieselTweaker, he is signed up here but I have not seen him on here for a while. He bought a high strength billet input shaft but as far as I know it has not been installed as of yet. His truck is the red one on the New Era website home page. http://www.neweradiesel.com/

It's the torque that burns them up. From what I remember on the 426 Hemi autos, you could put up to 600 lb/ft torque through them (depending on the number of clutches in the clutch pack, the valve body, and aux cooling). After that you gotta spend some money.
