so i dropped the trans pan, adjusted bands, new filter, gasket, five quarts fluid...and now nothing happens when i put shifter into any gear--it's like trans isn't even there...i've done this work before, so i don't think i screwed something up, but, well, seems like i did...thoughts?

Did you pop the shift linkage loose when adjusting the front band?

nothing showing on the dipstick this morning (at idle in neutral). was showing some last night. i'll get more fluid and report back. always leery of overfilling...it did move a bit this morning when stone cold. yes, i did take the linkages off, and they went back on without a fight for once, first thing i checked, as the shift lever feels awfully smooth   thanks, k

Dollars to donuts that something popped loose on the top of the valve body.

I think I had the same thing happen to me at one point... I don't remember exactly what it was, something with a ball falling out of position in proximity to the rooster comb or something.
