Clutch and flywheel questions

Postby 1992gen1_fan » Sat Aug 22, 2015 5:57 am

Hello. Doing some work on my truck and thought I'd start a thread for my questions regarding the clutch assembly since this prety much the first clutch I've messed with my self.

Got the clutch removed today and was wondering how important it is to replace the complete clutch assembly vs just the friction disc. It still looks to have quite a bit of material left but near the center of the disc there are 2 broken tabs. As far as I can tell the pressure plate looks fine.

Also, getting ready to remove the flywheel. Noticed the hole in the center of the has a raised edge and part of it is chipped off, is that something that will be an issue? I'll try to get a couple pics later of what I'm talking about.

Thanks

With the 2 broken tabs I decided to just go ahead and order a new Sachs clutch disc, everything else looked fine.

Make sure you replace the throw out bearing and the pilot bearing at the same time. Trust me, you'll hate yourself later if you don't do it. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
