A518 problems

Postby 93cummins89 » Mon Oct 12, 2015 5:46 pm

so i started my truck for the first time in 6 months.started fine..ran fine. backed in reverse fine. drove it half way up on a trailer in 1st gear then nothing. had it to the floor with the turbo screaming and it didnt move. rolled it off. let it run in park for 15 or so minutes. then tried again and it walked right up on the trailer......any ideas as to why?
thanks

Did the 518's have the same drainback issue as the old 727's? I had a 77 Dodge W200, that when it set for an extended period of time, would drain the converter back into the pan. When you first started it, it'd move, then nothing, I got in the habit if it sat for a month or so, to start it, then let it sit in neutral for 5-10min idling, since fluid doesn't pump on these in park.

They do have a drain back issue. If you let it idle in neutral not park for a short time, usually seconds, it will engage properly.
