5r110 in a first gen?

Postby kyled19 » Mon Oct 19, 2015 6:33 pm

so i was looking around at tranny swaps today and found some interesting things! i read that a 5r110 can run in our trucks without changing the valve body (like you would with a 47 or 48re) and just run a controller and be able to control everything you need too! now I'm not sure if this is true so correct me if I'm wrong but if it was this would save like 1100 bucks and you would have a 6 speed auto instead of a 4 (if you were gonna go withs 47rh, 47re, or 48,re)! and it somewhat makes since because people take cummins motors and put them in fords so why not take a ford trans and put it in a cummins? anyone have any info on this swap? has anyone even tried this? i am by no means a transmission guy so i could be completely wrong but any feed back you be great! I just want to know if its possible and if so how hard would it be?

Besides the better gear splits/closer ratios.....why. I'm almost certain you would end up with a final drive ratio of the 46/47rh....47/48re.

It's a beefy trans,no doubt.....but it's a lot of money and time to spend.
I have seen the stand alone controllers on the cummins into a ford swap websites so most definitely you could make it work....with the bell and flywheel stuff

I wasn't super interested in actually doing it but i thought it might be a cool idea! looked at some of the conversion kits and they are stupid expensive! but still would be kinda cool!
