Nv4500....1st or 2nd gen bell housing?

Postby rollieD250 » Wed Nov 25, 2015 9:19 pm

When my clutch or getrag goes out i will more than likely swap in an NV4500....when doinh this wpuld i be better off buying the adapter or swapping things over from a 2nd gen? Are the HD 2nd gen hydros and shift fork far superior to that of the 1st gen? I know the shift forks are alot different, but not sure if they need to be upgraded. Will be behind 350hp being played with on back roads/ocassionaly the drag strip. I know some people say with the bellhousing kit you can retain your OEM driveshaft which is nice....but i will swap the engine plate/ starter if the 2nd gen set up seems to be better....any tips?

Thanks!

I went with the AA bellhousing adapter. I have over 50,000 miles on it without any problems. My truck is a 4WD version. I'm not sure if the 2WD G360 is exactly the same length as the 2WD NV4500 version.

I used all 2nd gen stuff except the hydros when I converted my 91. The slave cylinder doesn't like being turned around, as the hard line is quite stiff, but it worked on mine and has been trouble free for two years now. I did cover the line to keep it from rubbing and what not.
