Vss ok but still no overdrive or speedo, what to check next

Postby peytonmaterne » Sat Nov 28, 2015 1:17 pm

I swapped what i thought was a non working vss into a different truck and the speedo worked fine so that isn't the problem. What to check next? I also checked the small speedo gear in the trans, it looks brand new. Do i check for voltage at the plug? How much should i see.

You should see 12 volts at the plug.

Use a meter and check the wiring back up to the speedo head.

A bad plug at the VSS can cause problems to. I have replaced two plugs over the years on my truck.

Philip, i have 2.74 volts at the plug. My other truck with working speedo has 4.99. Any ideas? Surely others have had this problem.
