rear axle bolts

Postby stevediesel » Sat Jan 16, 2016 5:55 pm

I'm working on the rear brakes for my 91.5 W250. When I pulled the axles out there were bolts instead of studs. Reading the manual it mentions nuts and tapered dowels. Just curious what everyone has on their trucks. My old 68 D200 with dana 60 has studs with centering cones. Do the dowels need to be in place for strength or did a previous owner decide bolts were better?

Some where in the 91 year range. Dana went to bolts instead of wedges and nuts.
