Getrag fluid change.

I have 5 qts of 5w30 I'm going to put a bottle of lucas in it also. Should I put 4 qts 5w30 and the qts of lucas or 5 qts and the lucas. Also I almost bought 0w40. Which would be better? I read some place that someone said 0w30 was the best.

4.5 to 5 quarts total. 3.5 is the factory fill to the bottom of the plug, and you want 1 qt over that.
Asking what oil is like asking what politician, there are lots of answers, and tons of discussion. FSM calls for 0w-30, I run 15w-40 with no problems, and have run synthetic 50w for a while. Some guys run synthetic multi weight engine oil, I think Syncromesh, Amsoil, 80w-90. If you are going to be towing go with a heavier oil, 15w-40, Syn 50 or something like that. Stay away from the real heavy oils, 80w-90, and the heavy gear oils.

I filled mine to the top PTO cover bolt, and it ended up being a a hair over an additional quart. I used Amsoil Synchromesh, but mainly because I have over a case of it laying around for my other cars.

I hadn't given it thought until the past couple days, but I'd add some Moly and/or zinc additive if running conventional motor oil. Modern emissions compliant engine oils have little to no zinc. Only reason being that zinc is a suitable substance to prevent wear on sliding surfaces.

That's why a lot of 12v guys with heavier than stock valve spring run zinc additives in their crankcase oil, there's a lot more seat pressure with stronger springs, and we have flat tappet cams.

Anyway, zinc is good for sliding surface application; and that what gear teeth do as they mesh in and out.

IMO the 50w should be ok.
