Overall length of a 518 4wd auto

Postby bgilbert » Fri Jun 20, 2008 9:37 pm

Just wondering if anyone knew from past experience or have a 4wd 518 auto transmission out to measure it. Trying to figure out where, how when doing an auto to getrag swap the driveshafts need to be lengthened or shortened. My only guess is the overdrive 518 is longer than a nonOD 727. Matt just got his getrag in, going from a 727 to getrag. Both trannys are 26" long IIRC, same length either way, both t-cases are the same length, and the driveshafts were the same. Matt used his d-shafts from his auto truck since they were of known quality.

Another throw away model, a 4wd 727 auto regular cab single wheel 3.07 non-intercooled truck. Now Getrag 5 speed 3.07 and has been intercooled for awhile now. I'll let Matt post if he wants, but it was pretty much BOLT UP.
