shift kit or valvebody

Postby GO OVRIT » Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:10 am

Anybody have any reasons why I should save for a new valve body instead of just getting a shift kit? What do you actually get for the amount of price difference?

The VB is already done and is guaranteed to flow correctly. The shift kit is the VB without a guarantee and you have to install it. I doubt that I would pay 5bills  for a VB when I can get a trans go for 120. I would just do the shift kit. 8)

It depends on your priorities. If cashflow is reduced, a shift kit may be the way to go. But, you run the risk of putting a BandAid on a deep cut and not doing much for yourself in the long run. If you end up needing a valve body, you pissed away a bill and then some, making that 5-6 bill VB a 6-7 bill valve body.

If dependability is top priority, I'd probably get a complete valve body. Might drop the tranny and check out the rest of it while you got it down.

What makes you want a shift kit?

Have you done a stall test and checked your convertor performance?

No, I havn't done any testing on it. If all goes well I'm going to put my new converter in sat. I was just thinking I'd try and firm up the shifts a little while I was at it.
