tranny change

Postby T.winegar » Fri Jul 25, 2008 6:53 pm

i want a 5speed in my truck, instead of the 727 auto it has. i hate an automatic for any kind of work, especially pulling a trailer. what options are there for the switch, and where should i look to get a full tranny?
89 727-stageIvcomp 4in intake-amsoil air filter, 4in exhaust, dennyT, 366 spring. pump turned up to make me smile! low stall converter, rebuilt tranny at 120,000miles

the 6bt has a host of flywheel covers available, dodge, ford, chevy, sae #2 and sae #3, there is a huge selection of trannies, 4x4 bolt up options are slim, but older dodges and ih pickups used divorced new process transfer cases. I would go with 6 speed from medium freightliner or ford, get the whole shooten match, flywheel, flywheel cover, clutch, tranny and starter. I've seen 6bt in a kenworth straight truck.
93 w250 6 speed 4" exhaust, caution, work truck, she's no beauty. building 1 ton dually 4x4, dana 80, 48rh, 205 Scratch the one ton, bought frt. dually 4x4 98 12 valve with the tiny rear doors. rides so much better than the 93.

I'd stick with the OEM Getrag tranny. Plenty of capacity for what we do normally- I've put 20K behind the truck before, as have MMiller, and several others. I built a Getrag recently for a guy doing the same thing for his W250.
