Stall speed considerations???

Postby VEfreak » Mon Oct 06, 2008 8:55 pm

On friday i get payed and will order a torque converter from goerend. The truck will tow, daily drive, and be modified to have alot more power than stock. What is the stock stall speed on these trucks and what stall speed should be about correct for me. i should want about stock or lower stall speed right? As far as i know, go fast means high stall. Plus i want this truck to load at low rpm because of the way the power curves are on these, and to take pressure off the clutch packs too, right?

Last I knew they ( georend ) had 2 different stalls. You want a lower stall then stock but not the super low stall if your gonna tow. ( in my opinion ) This is a older email from them so the prices may be off some but you get the drift.

Hi Richie

yes we do converters for the non lock diesel trans the cost of the low stall converter is $650 the stall is about 500 rpm lower than the stock converter we also have a lower stall stator the extra cost of the super low stall is $300 the core charge is $300 but you get that back as soon as we get the old core back this converter does carry a lifetime warranty

thanks

I just bought from performance transmissions a low stall converter. Its a custom built job, not sure how many rpm difference. But the price was 300 bucks. If you want I can get you the number for the shop.
1990 Restored with a bit of aftermarket goodies might be for sale?

I also run a goerend converter and the easy part was buying one. I think the hard part was making all the phone calls to other builders only to buy one from goerend in the end.

They know what they are talking about on the phone. I am still doing things to my truck not anything stupid still. I just ran on the rollers last weekend and put down 320HP and the converter/tranny held real good.

I have had the new set-up in for about 3 months.

I saw lower etgs, better fuel mpg and my truck cooler then it did before after the install also.
