Quick Question

Postby Farmboy » Mon Dec 29, 2008 8:47 am

I am seeing from what I am reading that I have a NP205 transfer case in my W350. I couldn't find anything saying weather or not this is a shift-on-the-fly t-case or not.
1990 W350 4X4 NOW INTERCOOLED 5-speed. Boost/Pyro. Few light tweaks to the pump. Now a dually with an aluminum flatbed!!

I think you can go into 4H when moving. I know you have to be rolling to go back into 2H.

As long as your hubs are locked in you can be going as fast as you want. Just make sure you are going straight and not spinning. The guy that bought my other 89 I had was amazed. He asked the same question while he was test driving it and I reached down and popped it in with 2 fingers. I then pulled it right back out. Some shift kinda mean but that one was nice. The only pain is when you shift back to 2 wheel and over shoot into nuetral. That sucks with an auto. Easiest way then is to stop and shut off the truck.

Yeah when shiffting from 4LO or N back into 2HI is is easier to put the truck in nuetral and cut it off, shift the case and start it back up. 2HI to 4HI let off the throttle shift get back in throttle

If you want to get trivial, its an NV205(New Venture). Same case as the NP(New Process), only newer. Like stated above, only shift on the fly if the hubs are already locked in. If not the front driveshaft and axle will try to go zero to whatever speed instantly.
