Torque!

Postby Okie Smokie » Fri Jan 16, 2009 5:34 pm

Alright guys, I have made some engine performance enhancements 8) and I am driving right thru a 450/900 organic/kevlar clutch. I know which clutch I am going to use (550/1100 ceramic), ;-) but I have concerns about my stock getrag. How much torque are they rated for and how much have you seen them handle. I have been told to move to the NV4500, so I am also curious what it can handle and if it will be worth the money. I don't know exactly how much power I will be making yet. Kinda hard to dyno when the clutch won't hold. I haven't even turned on the propane and methanol yet.

the "360" in getrag 360, stands for it torque rating of 360lb. That being said there are people out there putting 1000lb of torque through them. I wouldn't worry about the trannie until it blows, but that's just me.

Thanks guys.

Are there any benefits or drawbacks to the NV4500? Does it have a higher torque rating?

The nv4500 is a stronger trannie. I don't know it's torque rating but it is higher. If I had one laying around I would put it in, but for me it's not worth the money until the old getrag actually starts to give me problems. The only issue I know of with the nv4500's is with 5th gear. I believe it's a lock nut that will back off and cause issues.
