flex plate

Help I need sugestions,
I just had a new trany put in my 93 (AUTOMATIC). My overdrive hasn't worked for crap since it was instaled. It slips in and out anywhere from 45-70. I was just about to take it in for warranty work and I broke my flexplate. My mechanic claims no responsability for the damage. Does anyone think that the OD slipping in and out could have cracked the flexplate? Annyone have any experiences with this. Please help its in the shop and I don't feel like geting screwed again.

Unless the bolts were lose in the flexplate I dont think its failure would be their fault, they shaould be responsible for your messed up overdrive though. You can buy the 2nd gen flexplate from cummins for decent money and it is supposedly stronger.

I don't think shifting in/out of OD would crack a flexplate. When you replace the cracked one, go with one from a second gen like KTA said.

As long as your speedometer works fine, the OD problem sounds like it might be an out of adjustment TPS. Check here: http://www.piersdiesel.com/Tech1GTPS.htm to adjust it.

Thanks for the tips. The TPS is new but adjusting it will probably work, it feels like an electrical glitch when it shifts out.

I tore my flex plate out long before I ever started bombing my heap. It's all too common in the OEM 1st gens.

My TPS failed after only 30K miles. In and out of overdrive as you describe.

When I changed the flex plate in mine I got one from Cummins as it was better priced than the one from Dodge.
