Where to get a new clutch release bearing?

Postby SChandler » Mon May 21, 2007 7:21 pm

As the title indicates, I am in need of recommendations for what brand and where to purchase a new clutch release (throwout) bearing for my recently purchased 92 4x4. The clutch is in good shape so I won't be replacing it at this time. Both Schucks and Napa want about $60 for a new release bearing. I am trying to put the truck back together in the next couple of days so local (near Portland, OR) sources are most helpful to me. The problem that prompted the teardown appears to be in the trans (will know tonight after I get the top cover off of it). I also posted this up on Cummins Forum and will be checking both places for replies. Thanks in advance,

Try calling www.southbendclutch.com when I bought my clutch from them, their throwout bearing was very nice. I needed another one for a different truck, went to NAPA, and EEK!!! It was shot, new in box. Hard to turn, made noise etc. I told him to keep it, the used stock one I had was in better shape. It must of been sitting on their shelf too long.

Thanks for the heads up on South Bend. I wasn't sure if they sold the release bearing separate or not. I will give them a call today.
