help!!!!! auto trans. ??

Postby fjkfta » Sun Jun 24, 2007 12:08 pm

I have a 93 w250 auto. The extension housing cracked recently when the wife was driving and it came to a stop literally. So heres the problem i replaced the extension housing and now the truck goes in 1st gearf and reverse with no slippage but will not shift out of first gear. Any comments will be greatly appreaciated as the truck has been down for 2mos. and i need her back!!!!

Check your TV cable adjustment, as well as the rest of the linkage.

I doubt it but it could be the Throttle Valve stuck in it's bore. Have to drop the pan and visually check for the obvious broken this or that...

Do you have a Factory Service Manual? That is the best source of trans. service and rebuild info.

Check governor pressures. If the governor sticks in the open position it can cause no upshifts or high RPM upshifts only.

It is located in the tail housing area also.

There's a photo in this thread for reference. I'll look at my manuals for specs if I get a chance this weekend, been out of town lately with very little time. Maybe someone else can chime in with the pressure specs...

Port number 4 in that post is the governor port. Hook a gage into it. Put the truck on jack stands.

Start the engine and put the trans in drive. With the truck idleing in drive the rear wheels not turning you should show 0 to 1.5 PSI.

Release the bakes and apply slow smooth throttle. You should see a steady rise in PSI as the speed increases.

If your governor is working correctly then time to head into the valve body. If you don't have a FSM I would recommend getting one. Now.

Thanks for all the help i am on the road so it will be this weekend befoere i get to test the pressure. Yes i would like a fsm but dont have the cash right now if you know what i mean. If the pressure are bad what could be the problem ??maybe the pump in the tranny burnt up when the old lady broke down?

It could be about anything. The first question I would have is did you use a gasket on the tail housing or RTV?

If you used RTV then most likely you have a ball of it down in the governor passages.

i used rtv cause dodge by my house was taking to long on the gasket been over 2wks they keep saying its in transit yea right. If it is a ball in the passage can it be removed without pulling the extension housing again it was a PITA

Do the governor pressure test and lets see what it is doing and go from there.
