CROOKED POLE QUESTION

Postby BEARKILLER » Fri Jun 29, 2007 3:34 am

Every Getrag I ever messed with came with that straight-as-a-gun-barrel shifter that reaches from steering wheel to glove-box door.

The 91 I just bought has a crooked shaft.

Were these available; or, has someone like me made it??

One thing I don't like, though, is the knob spins like it is on bearings.

I was going to make a crooked pole for the son's truck.

Someone has broken off, and welded back together, his shifter.

Can I swap shifter-poles between the two trucks??

Thanks.

My truck has a bent lever, but it looks to have been done (well) by someone after it was built, it's not factory.

No reason you can't bend it to suit you.

Some of the early trucks had a different style of attachment, you will have to look.

If you want to replace the knob, the thread is M10x1.5, which is pretty standard. You can find all kinds of knobs that will fit.

If you have a 93, the bend is factory, and it attaches like the NV4500s- has two bolts on the side of the shift stub that attaches to the stick.

89-91s were straight from the floor to glove box when stock, and screwed into the stub. I have bent mine below where the shifter boot comes up, so it is at least livable and looks decent.
