Where do you get replacement battery cables?

Postby jmos4 » Tue Nov 17, 2015 3:34 pm

Hi all,

I got the factory part numbers, but they are no longer available from the dealer (I know go figure 26 years old) so what options are there on a 1989 W250 as the cables are larger than anything I've seen at the parts store, no to mention there's a few extra connectors on the positive cable.

Ref:
(+)=4487113
(-)=4487114

If you go to a big truck or heavy equipment repair shop they can probably make you cables. You most likely will have to add eyes on your smaller cables and put them on the bolts.

Both cables are a 2/0 size. Any good parts store should have it in bulk. You need 8' for both cables. Now the problem will be the battery end. The universal battery cable clamps are almost to small for 2/0 cable. So it would be better to use double eyelet ends on the cables. then use the heavy military bolt threw type battery connections.

I just did this a couple of weeks ago hooking up my wench. The grid heater wires are a 5/16's bolt connection. I used a extender for those two wires. The alt feed wire is a 6 gage wire. I used a solder on 3/8's eyelet on it. That large red wire for the duck foot I used a crimp on terminal.

I changed from the factory lead battery ends to the threaded studs on the battery with 3/8" eyelets on the cables in my 93. Local NAPA did it fairly cheap. Now I no longer have to worry about the battery end connectors getting soft and breaking after 23 years.
