Emergency Flasher Switch

Postby darestie » Thu Nov 26, 2009 1:53 am

My Emergency flashers keep coming on because the switch won't stay in the locked (off) position. Is it as simple as taking the column cover off and replacing the switch, or will I have to really dig into the column. I have a shim holding it down for now but big bumps like to knock it loose.

It's not bad at all. Steering wheel stays put. I think get some safety/tamper torx bits, and remove the column cover, and it's right there. It's been a while since I've had one apart. I could ask my mom- her plastic part broke on her one time, and she has never gotten around to getting another.

The hazard switch is part of the multi-function switch assembly that controls hazards, turn signals, wiper, headlight beam selector and washer.
If 1 thing goes bad, it all gets replaced.

That having been said, it is relatively easy to replace, as dpuckett said.

The switch itself is held in with the tamper proof torx screws, but the COVER is normal torx.
You'll need a LONG shafted driver for the cover ones, because the holes they are set into are deep.

Does the switch have a connector, or will I have to splice wires?

Anyways Thanks for the great responses! I will see if my dodge dealer has one in stock next week.

The switch does have a connector with a small ball of wires on it.
It's held in with an 8mm (5/16s for us sae guys) screw and there is a clip-on plastic cover over the wires.

You may have to loosen the under dash column mounting bolts a tad bit to make removing the covers a bit easier.
