Engine shutoff switch

Postby cumminz90 » Sun May 02, 2010 7:02 am

The other day the 93 didn't want to shut off with the key i havent had time yet to fool with it yet so im shuting it down manually. Question is what do i need to test to see if its working? And is there a fuse or relay that i can check to see if that mite be the problem? Thanks guys :D

It will likely be a loose wire or the rubber tip broke off the shutoff plunger. If you don't know where to find the plunger, do a search here. It seems like i've seen pics or a diagram on here somewhere. Either way, it is located on the back of the IP.

If it won't shut off, you chipped the plunger tip. Power keeps it open, if you lose power, the truck will quit, not keep running.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Is it bad when you chip a plunger tip because what your describing is exactly what its doing and i have power with key on and none when i turn it off and it keeps running. How do i fix it?

It's not real bad. Some guys get all worried about where the pieces went, but I've chipped 3 or 4 and the truck still runs great. You need to remove the solenoid and replace it. You can't buy just a plunger. If you do a search, there's a link to a place on e-bay that sells VW solenoids for around $30. Dodge and Cummins want closer to $100 for one. Just cut or bend and break the top of the bracket on the end of the injection pump, it will give you tons more room for access.
