Postby hassy21 » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:44 pm

My black box that goes to the low pressure line on the ac went out and seen a thread that nooblet bypassed the box? Just wondering if anybody had any diagram or info to bypass?

Not sure how you would bypass it and still get the A/C to cycle properly. I'd be interested to know.

You can still buy the box though, Mopar P/N 56005783, You can get it online for about $75

We'll for right now I just put an auxiliary switch to engage and disengage the AC compessor clutch. Just bypassed the two other wires and ran the brown wire to a two way switch and grounded it to the brake release lever to get a good ground. It Is a bit of a hassle but worth it in 100 degree California weather. Especially with a 1 year old in the middle.

What's the black box do? I don't have AC on my truck and I'm curious.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

FSM calls it the "freeze control" or "electronic temperature cycling stitch". Keeps the evaporator coil from freezing up. (works better than my '04 did!)

Hassy21, If your in a bind man I think I have a working spare around here somewhere, let me know. We can't have you overheating the young one!!

I thought the purpose of cycling the AC is to keep from freezing the exchanger??? I know when you put propane in to use as a coolant the pressure is too low to trip the said switch thus freezing the exchanger into a ice cube.

You are correct. What you call the "exchanger", the shop manual calls the "evaporator".
