ground problem

Postby mopowa » Tue Aug 03, 2010 11:11 pm

Well I'm having a ground problem and I dont really know where to start looking, hoping someone has had the same experience and can lead me in the right direction. Problem is when I turn my headlights on, both of my blinker lights light up, also my horn doesn't work anymore just hear it clicking.
Thanks for any advice

Check the body ground on the core support to the battery. I was going to say the rear one on the left end of the frame because of the lights, then I saw the horn is involved too. Shoot, check them all, rear of engine to firewall, should be one from cab to box. (mine doesn't, and don't notice it) and one under the dash, just right of the steering column.
Good luck!

PS, when I'm having a ground problem, it's usually because I've had too much to drink and can't get off it. ;)

Thanks for the advice ptbomb! Checked all my grounds today and they were all good, aside from not being able to find the ground to the right of the steering column, is it on the firewall or towards the steering wheel? One thing I noticed though, when I take out the fuse for my horn the blinker lights do not come on anymore. My dad said he'd take a look at it tomorrow (he knows a heck of a lot more than I when it comes to this stuff) I'll let you know the results.
Cheers

Towards the dash, it's just 2 or 3 wires screwed to a sheet metal bracket usually, easy to miss. Sounds like a bad ground for sure, something in the horn circuit is grounding thru the parking lights.

Grounds, the story of my life. If one is bad, there are more. Best thing to do is clean all you can find. Look hard, some like to hide.
