Radio: no constant power??? HELP

Postby josh_6bt » Fri May 20, 2011 8:35 pm

Hello, I recently wired an aftermarket stereo in my 92 W250 and I ran into some problems. First off I bought the E2 wiring harness that adapters the factory harness to a aftermarket deck and wired it correctly. I tested the deck to make sure everything was fine, everything worked as it should no problems, however when It finally came to installing the deck in the dash things went wrong. When I got the deck installed in the dash I checked the deck again by turn the key to accessory and I found the deck didnt work, "WTF" right. I pulled it all apart and found that the wire that is my "constant power" isnt so constant. I checked all fuses and all were good, I have no idea where to start tracing wires. I also noticed that my OD Off and Cargo buttons no longer work and I lost my interior light as well  . Anyone got a wiring diagram for this truck? or some ideas. Its got me beat.

I had the same problem for the constant power to the radio.

Is it just the lights or do the OD off button not work? Meaning no od, just 3 gears and a max of 70mph or so?

If the OD still works, I can bet you 1 of 2 things. 1)Follow the constant wire back to right around where there is a support for the dash by the steering column. My old 4x4 chaffed right through. I found out by the smoke rolling from under the dash! 2) Chaffed wire that blew a fusible link.

yes OD still works, just the light doesnt work. Thanks for the tip, I'll look for that fusible link wire. Wish I had Mitchell OnDemand right about now.

I just fixed this problem and it was the weirdest thing. The spade connectors that are in the fuse box that hold the fuse in place got opened up too wide. The fuse was in place but it was too loose to make a proper connection. Pull out your fuse and use a small blade to just gently tighten up the connectors in the fuse box. Your radio should be operational after that.
