hooking up 3rd brake light on truck cap

Postby ericyr6 » Mon Aug 08, 2011 8:51 pm

Just as the title reads I need some direction in hooking up the 3rd brake light on my new topper. The cap also has a dome light and that'd be nice to have working too, especially since hunting season is around the corner!

Can I just hook up the brake light by splicing into the brake wires in the tail light?

Wrenching is easy, Electrical is my cryptonite!

any help is appreciated!

Your going to need to tap into the brake light circuit before it goes to the steering column. I would tap into the wire right after the brake switch. You then will need to run a fused hot back for the topper interior light. Don't forget to run a ground as well. If you splice in the rear harness it blink with the blinker for that side the wire controls.
